Haley Bowles Awarded Blue Ribbon Scholarship

Haley Bowles, a graduating senior at Sacred Heart High School received the $500 Blue Ribbon Committee Scholarship during her commencement ceremony on Sunday, May 13. The scholarship was the first awarded by the Blue Ribbon Committee and it seeks to recognize local high school seniors who are pursuing a college degree or certificate from State Fair Community College (SFCC); furthermore, applicants must write an essay expressing their intent to add to the status and reputation of Sedalia, Missouri through their respective profession.

Bowles will enter SFCC this fall to pursue an Associate of Arts degree in Agriculture. In her application essay, Bowles describes Sedalia, Missouri as "a large farming community" and she feels that "if more youth were to join the FFA [Future Farmers of America]...we would be able to have more productive members of society which can contribute to the status and reputation of Sedalia."

The scholarship funds are used to help offset expenses for tuition and books. The funding promotes education and civic responsibility which are keystones of the Blue Ribbon Committee's mission.
